Weather alert: Hail is expected in three provinces on Thursday

The latest regional weather forecast includes a warning for severe thunderstorms that will bring heavy rain and hail damage to the North West, the Free State and Mpumalanga tomorrow.

Weather warnings, Thursday, November 7

The SA Weather Service (Saws) has issued a level 2 yellow warning for severe thunderstorms causing heavy rain, hail and strong damaging winds, resulting in damage to property and infrastructure, settlements and major travel disruptions and disruptions to municipal and other essential services are expected in the west of the country. parts of the North West Province, northern parts of Free State and the extreme south western parts of Highveld of Mpumalanga.

It has issued a level 1 yellow warning for damaging waves resulting in coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities being affected by spray and/or large waves between Cape Point and Plettenberg Bay.

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected in the north-western parts of the Free State, the western parts of the North-West, the central and north-eastern parts of the Northern Cape and the northern parts of the Western Cape.

Provincial weather forecast, Thursday, November 7

Gauteng:

Partly cloudy and warm but hot in the far north with isolated showers and thunderstorms.

Mpumalanga:

Morning fog patches along the slope, otherwise cloudy and cool with a chance of drizzle in the east.

From the afternoon it will become partly cloudy on the Highveld with isolated showers and thunderstorms, but scattered in the south-west.

Limpopo:

Cloudy and cool to warm with a chance of drizzle in the east. From the afternoon it will become partly cloudy in the southwest with some thunderstorms in the afternoon.

Northwest Province:

Cloudy at first in the east, otherwise partly cloudy and warm with some to scattered showers and thunderstorms.

Free State:

Cloudy at first in the east, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms.

Northern Cape:

Nice and warm, but warm in the south. It will be partly cloudy in the northeast.

Along the coast the wind blows fresh to strong from a southerly to south-easterly direction.

Western Cape:

Fine and warm to hot conditions, but very hot in places inland on the west coast.

The wind along the coast will be strong from a southeasterly direction and almost reach storm force in the southwest, otherwise fresh easterly along the south coast and strong from the afternoon.

Eastern Cape (western half):

Partly cloudy and cool near the coast, otherwise fine and warm.

Along the coast the wind is blowing weak to moderate from an easterly direction

Eastern Cape (eastern half):

Cloudy to partly cloudy south of the slope, with a chance of light evening drizzle and rain in the far southeast.

Along the coast the wind is blowing weak to moderate from an easterly direction.

KwaZulu-Natal:

Morning mist over the western interior, otherwise partly cloudy and cool.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected, but these will be isolated in the northeast.

The wind along the coast will be moderate from an easterly to southeasterly direction and become northeasterly in the south towards the evening.
