The Federal High Court in Lagos on Tuesday sentenced a 40-year-old man, Noah Oke, to three years in prison for illegal possession of Cannabis sativa.

The court, however, gave him the option of a fine of one million naira.

He was prosecuted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA.

The defendant was arraigned before Judge Lewis Allagoa on a single count of drug trafficking and pleaded guilty.

Following his appeal, the court reviewed the facts of the case with NDLEA)1 counsel, Mr. Aondofa Korinjo, presenting the exhibits that were admitted by the court.

Korinjo then urged the court to convict the accused based on his plea and the evidence presented by the prosecution.

The judge found the accused guilty of the charges and sentenced him.

According to the charge sheet, the convict committed the crime on August 21 in Seme area of ​​Lagos State.

The NDLEA stated that he was illegally in possession of a kilogram of Cannabis sativa, a restricted drug contrary to Section 11(b). (c) NDLEA 2004.
