CARROLTON, Ky. — Authorities rescued a toddler from a burning home in Carrollton, Ky. on Thursday morning, but Carrollton police expressed concerns that there were survivors inside.

A fire broke out in a home on Fifth Street in Carrollton, Kentucky.

Detective Dave Roberts of the Carrollton Police Department said Thursday morning that when officers arrived at the burning home around 6 a.m., they observed a 3-year-old child standing near the back door of the home.

“The house was completely flooded,” Roberts said. “It was too hot for the officer to try to get into the house.”

The girl was taken to Carroll County Memorial Hospital and then transferred to a hospital in Louisville, Roberts said.

However, the authorities fear that there may be more people who will not be able to leave their homes on time.

Firefighters have not yet been able to enter the home to determine if anyone is dead inside because it is still too hot, Roberts said.

Roberts said it could take until Thursday evening for the structure to cool enough for the fire department to search the rubble.

By noon, the charred building was still smoking, but had mostly collapsed.

A neighbor told WCPO that she knew the family that lived in the house well and that two adults and four children lived there.
