A dog found in a home with another dog and six cats after its owner died got its happy ending almost a year later.

Frankie had been living at the James River Humane Society in North Dakota since November 2023, and no adopters had shown interest in him, which confused staff because Frankie is a “sweet and loving boy.” This was announced by a representative of the animal shelter Newsweek on Facebook that all the staff and volunteers loved Frankie. The high school staff even took him home for an evening where he behaved really well.

Fortunately, almost a year after he was found, Frankie’s happy ending came on October 13, when his forever family came forward and adopted him on the spot. His owners didn’t need another visit. They knew Frankie was the dog for them. And from the huge smile on Frankie’s face in the humane society’s Facebook post, Frankie knew he was coming home.

Part of the caption reads: “Frankie chose his new family this afternoon and insisted they take him home immediately – he’s out of shelter!”

Even though it’s only been a few days since he came home for good, Frankie has settled in quickly. He loves running around his new yard, although he is still learning how to use the doggy door. He hasn’t had any accidents and doesn’t bark.

“I talked to Frankie’s adopters recently and they said he’s doing great!” – said the representative. “They are very happy with it.”

And to say he started pampering himself would be an understatement. The owners treated him to treats and snacks of blueberry muffins and ice cream.

Frankie met his owners’ family, where he received lots of “hugs and pats from their grandchildren.” He had a date with his dog cousin Ellie, who was also adopted from an animal shelter a few years ago.

Viewers were delighted with Frankie’s happy ending, flooding the comments section of the Facebook post with praise for his adoptees.

“Oh Frankie is going to be spoiled,” said a Facebook user, while another added: “He’s going to have the BEST life now!”

A third person chimed in: “I’m so glad you found your man. I can see he will have a wonderful life with you. Thank you for adopting me.”
