NYON, Switzerland (AP) — UEFA has launched a new investigation into the English match official David Coote Thursday after a video allegedly showed him using cocaine during the European Championships.
“A UEFA ethics and disciplinary inspector has been appointed to assess a possible breach of UEFA disciplinary regulations by the referee, Mr David Coote,” UEFA said in a statement.
Coote worked as a video review specialist at Euro 2024, where match officials stayed in a hotel near Frankfurt.
The British newspaper The Sun published a video late Wednesday showing Coote snorting the drug using an American banknote.
Coote was suspended by the English match referee on Monday after another mobile phone video circulated of him making offensive comments about former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp with friends. That body and the English Football Association have started an investigation.
UEFA has already withdrawn Coote from match duty for national team matches this week after the first video was published.
