A group of Generation Z voters largely agreed that the mainstream media has become “so corrupt” in its bias against newly elected President Donald Trump that it has affected the election.
The New York Times asked one focus group of 13 undecided voters Wednesday about their feelings after the election. Although most of them voted for President Biden or were too young to vote in 2020, more than half now admitted to voting for Trump, while only two voted for the vice president.
For many of them, the press was an important factor in their decision.
A former Biden voter in South Carolina, 24-year-old Joseph, said, “The mainstream media was carrying Kamala Harris’ water. We need checks on the president to have a healthy democracy. If Kamala Harris were elected, that wouldn’t happen. keep an eye on her from the media.”

Abigail, 23, a former Biden voter from Virginia, said: “I saw how the media has become so corrupt in their case against Trump. There was a Trump segment where he said: Put Cheney in front of a bunch of shooters. But that wasn’t the case. I can’t vote for an establishment that just thinks it’s okay to lie to us.”
George, a 21-year-old student from Georgia, also reported Liz Cheney’s misleading story, calling it “simply despicable.” He added, “See The Washington Post response for those who don’t support a candidate – people who resign – it’s hell on earth there. And The New York Times is just plain biased. Everyone is just so unfair to Trump.”
Lillian, 27, a 2020 Trump voter from Virginia, said she decided to vote for Trump after seeing the media “meltdown” over Trump’s rally at Madison Square Garden.
Jack, a 22-year-old Biden voter from New York in 2020, acknowledged that the press has “a double standard when it comes to Trump versus Harris or just Democrats in general.”
“We saw it with Biden’s ‘garbage’ comment. That was glossed over a bit. Unfortunately, people on MSNBC and even The Times said Kamala ran a flawless campaign. Maybe it’s because Trump actually had substance and Kamala just ran on joy,” Jack said.
“They’re going after Trump and they never went after Kamala. They have their own prejudices. And they let it seep into their election coverage,” Californian Biden voter Mark, 24, agreed in 2020.

Some voters complimented the media appearances of Trump and newly elected Vice President J.D. Vance, with one voting for Trump based on Vance’s New York Times interview. Others praised Trump going on “The Joe Rogan Experience.”
Joseph said he made the decision to vote for Trump after hearing him talk about Rogan because “he just seemed more normal than the other side.”
“The interview with Joe Rogan was huge for me. Trump enthusiastically said yes to a three-hour, open, honest conversation with Joe Rogan, a former Bernie brother. I think it tells a lot about which candidate is authentic and which is not. ,” said 22-year-old former Biden voter Jack from New York.
Lillian suggested that Trump and Vance continue to visit Rogan regularly while in power, as “a nice way to check in and give a progress update.”
Some of them also attacked Harris’s lack of media appearances, saying the few appearances she made hurt her – one of them said he decided to vote for Trump after Harris appeared on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast..

“I was looking for a candidate I thought I could trust. A key moment that stood out to me was the ‘SNL’ skit Harris did where she essentially made a fool of herself. All her focus was on the entertainment industry and avoiding That struck me as very fake,” said Laura, the 20-year-old intern from Maryland.
Laura, who ultimately voted for a write-in candidate, added that she didn’t like seeing that “Harris was doing a lot of entertainment interviews and not focusing on real interviews.”

Overall, many hoped that in the future less attention would be paid to biased media and that the press would be more honest.
“I hope people take the mainstream media less seriously and do their own research to find out what candidates actually believe,” Joseph said.
Abigail agreed: “Yes, I hope in four years the mainstream media wakes up and sees that everyone is doing well and stops calling Republicans fascists just because they disagree with them.”
