Dry and cold until the end of the week

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) – We started today with frigid temperatures starting in the single digits for most, even below zero. This is all thanks to calm breezes and clear skies during the night, allowing us to cool down efficiently.

High pressure continues to influence our weather pattern for today, bringing light to calm breezes under sunny skies. Highs remain close to season today, with highs in the mid 30s.

Tonight we will expect clear skies and calm winds, allowing for maximum radiant cooling or efficient cooling. This can quickly drop overnight temperatures into the teens and single digits, so another frigid start to your Friday morning.

Temperatures will continue to rise gradually over the next few days, with highs in the afternoon around normal Friday, then lower temperatures in the low 40s over the weekend.

High pressure will start to fade on Friday, allowing some high clouds to move in, but we will still see a good amount of sunshine.

On Saturday we will follow a low pressure area that will bring some showers, perhaps some sleet for a short time. There will probably be drenching rain on Sunday, which will last until Monday. Temperatures will be mild, from 40 to 50 degrees. We could get an inch or two of rain on Monday.

Tuesday looks dry, then another round of wet weather on New Year’s Day, with a mix of rain and snow, ending with snow on Thursday. A long way to go, and we’ll continue to refine those details as we get closer.
