Coastal flooding is possible on Monday and Tuesday as dangerous and strong waves arrive along the coastline. A coastal flood warning was issued for west-facing beaches, where waves could range from 18 to 25 feet. South-facing beaches also have dangerous sea conditions. Make sure you stay out of the water! Even experienced swimmers should keep an eye on current conditions and dangerous currents. On land we have a beautiful day ahead of us. Low clouds and fog obscure visibility early in the day, but clear quickly. Around noon, skies will be mostly sunny and temperatures will be a few degrees high, expect highs in the upper 60s and low 70s.
Our next weather pattern shift arrives on Christmas Eve. Low pressure in the north brings gusts of wind and somewhat cooler and more restless weather. This is a very typical system for the Central Coast and we have seen a similar pattern throughout the winter season. The impacts in the Pacific Northwest will be significant as long as we get to the end of the storm. Showers and thunderstorms dissipate as they reach our northern communities and rainfall amounts appear to be less than an inch. The rain will be short-lived and most areas south of Point Conception will remain dry. Winds may be close to advisory levels, so keep an eye out for Christmas and holiday decorations! We will dry out by evening and the recent moisture will cause nighttime fog to form near the beaches.
It’s going to be a damp and misty Christmas morning! In the early morning the clouds start to clear and a very pleasant afternoon is planned. The sky becomes mostly sunny, we dry out and the wind dies down. Great afternoon to spend time with loved ones, indoors or outdoors! The dry weather will be short-lived, because the next chance of showers will come on Thursday. Models rely on the amount of precipitation, but the chance seems to remain around 20% or less. We have another system moving into our weekend, so while rain won’t be a major problem, it will be a cool, cloudy and somewhat humid work week.
