A gang of 12 persons involved in the theft of gold, silver and copper jewelery worth ₹1.2 crore was busted by the Central Zone Task Force team and Domalguda police.
The gang, led by Indrajit Ghorai, younger brother of victim Ranjeet Ghorai, carried out a planned dacoity at Ranjeet’s residence in Domalguda in the early hours of December 12, Hyderabad Police Commissioner CV Anand said.
The gang stormed Ranjeet’s house between 3:30 am and 4:00 am, brandishing axes, knives, sickles and a lighter pistol to intimidate the family into submission. They fled the scene in an SUV and escaped with gold jewelery weighing over 1.2 kg, 616 grams of silver, copper items and ₹2.9 lakh in cash.
Those arrested include Indrajit Ghorai, 43, the mastermind and main conspirator, along with Altaf Mohammed Khan, 23, Syed Irfan Ahmed, 44, Md. Noor Ullah, 40, Habeeb Hussain, 35, Shaik Shabbir, 46, Mohd Arbaaz, 25. , Shoaib Khan, 22, Gulam Maqdum alias Shonu, 29, Shaik Osman alias Saif, 24, Shaik Allauddin alias Mirza, 29, and Shaik Akram , 21. Three more accomplices – Shahabaz, Nazeer and Zaheer – remain in hiding.
“The dacoity came out of a personal grudge. Indrajit Ghorai, frustrated by financial losses in his gold-decorating business and extravagant spending habits, harbored resentment toward his more successful brother Ranjeet, whose booming business and property purchases fueled sibling rivalry. Determined to recoup his losses, Indrajit hatched a conspiracy with Altaf Mohammed Khan and Syed Irfan Ahmed, gradually assembling a team of accomplices, including rowdy gunmen and criminals who had previously committed offences,” the officer said.
