Myanmar’s ethnic armed group says it has captured the headquarters of the Western military

BANGKOK (AP) — A powerful ethnic armed group in western Myanmar claimed Friday it had won a major victory in its war against the ruling military, joining neighboring countries during a meeting in Thailand discussed efforts to peacefully end the conflict.

The Arakan Army’s capture of a strategically important regional army headquarters in Rakhine State would bring it one step closer to seizing control of the entire state, a goal not pursued by any of the several other rebel groups in other parts of Myanmar reaches.
