Drug investigation leads to arrest of wanted Smyrna man

SMYRNA, Del. – A Smyrna man is behind bars on charges stemming from an investigation into the distribution of illegal narcotics.

The investigation began earlier this month and involved 25-year-old Nasir Wayman, who also had a warrant for his arrest. Monday around 7:30 p.m., detectives on patrol spotted a Kia Optima driven by Wayman. They stopped the vehicle after it entered the Acme parking lot, at which point Wayman allegedly fled on foot and disposed of drugs in the parking lot. Wayman was eventually arrested after the chase and the deployment of the Taser.

Detectives searched the parking lot, vehicle and Wayman and found approximately 4.05 grams of heroin and a loaded 9mm handgun with an obliterated serial number.

Wayman was charged with numerous drug and weapons charges, as well as resisting arrest. He was held at SCI on a $70,000 cash bond.
