Armed and dangerous suspect wanted in Jefferson St. murder

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Portsmouth police are still searching for the second suspect in the Oct. 20 shooting that left a 44-year-old man dead.

Jamel Raiquon Jones, 27, is wanted for first-degree murder, discharging a firearm from a vehicle, malicious wounding, shooting across a roadway, using a firearm in the commission of a felony and discharging a firearm a public place.

Police say Jones is considered armed and dangerous.

On Sunday, October 20, Portsmouth Police responded to a report of a shooting in the 2300 block of Jefferson Street around 5:30 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound and transported him to a local hospital for treatment. .

Two other men involved in the incident were treated as walk-ins at a local hospital. Police said one of the walk-in victims, 44-year-old Danyelle Akoya Lee, died from his injuries.

On Tuesday, police announced the arrest of 19-year-old Torian Jamari Sexton in connection with the shooting and murder. Sexton has been charged with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of aggravated malicious wounding and other firearm-related charges.
