Two dogs rescued by a TDOT employee near a damaged section of I-40 have been returned to their owners

COCKE COUNTY, Tenn. (WSMV) – Two dogs were rescued while the Tennessee Department of Transportation worked on a section of I-40 damaged by Hurricane Helene.

TDOT said TDOT employee Richard found two dogs near mile marker 448 on I-40 in Cocke County while recovering. The mother was found drinking water from a ditch near her puppy.

The dogs were wearing tags that helped Richard track down their owners who lived in the Grassy Fork area, which TDOT said was several miles from where they were found.

The owners said the dogs had been missing since Helene arrived in the area.

“Richard was happy to help reunite these furry loved ones with their family,” TDOT said.

The dogs are now home and doing well, the owners told TDOT. They also said they appreciated that Richard returned the dogs to them.
