MOSCOW, November 13. /TASS/. Russia will assess newly-elected US President Donald Trump’s position on the Ukrainian conflict through concrete steps, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a news briefing.
“President Vladimir Putin commented on Trump’s intentions while speaking at the forum of the Valdai Discussion Club. He said they deserved attention. As for the actions, they must first become reality. After that we will also be able to comment on it,” Zakharova said. when asked about Trump’s intentions to work toward ending the conflict in Ukraine.
“If something still needs to be done, but it’s not clear what that really is, and if it’s immediately denied, I think that’s a picture of the current political landscape in the US.”
Russia, Zakharova said, is a self-sufficient country “that respects international law and is ready and open to developing mutually beneficial relations or respect with the whole world.”
“We know how to respond and fight back to defend national interests on the basis of international law,” Zakharova concluded.
