Sam Darnold reacts after Vikings beat Colts 21-13
Vikings QB Sam Darnold spoke to reporters after scoring three second-half touchdowns in a 21-13 win over the Colts on Sunday Night Football at US Bank Stadium.
MINNEAPOLIS – The Minnesota Vikings are 6-2 after a 21-13 win over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday Night Football, but Jordan Addison’s father wasn’t happy with at least one of Sam Darnold’s throws.
Addison had five catches for 42 yards and a touchdown, but could have been a target on any of Darnold’s three turnovers. Early in the fourth quarter, Darnold tried to force a throw to Justin Jefferson in double coverage. It was picked up by Nick Cross.
Vikings locker room reacts to 21-13 win over Colts
Vikings players Dallas Turner, Josh Oliver, Harrison Smith, Josh Metellus, Cam Robinson, TJ Hockenson and Justin Jefferson react from the locker room after a 21-13 win over the Colts on Sunday Night Football to improve to 6-2 on the season.
Addison looked to break open over the middle of the field for what could have been an explosive play, but Darnold passed to Jefferson. Addison’s father noticed.
“Even Stevie Wonder could see Jordan Addison was open when Sam Darnold was intercepted!!! Rolando Addison Sr. posted on Twitter.
Why it matters
Stevie Wonder is blind. Was Darnold’s throw ill-advised? Probably. Should Addison’s father publicly question Darnold’s decision-making? Probably not.
Addison’s one-handed touchdown catch on the Vikings’ opening drive of the third quarter not only put them on the scoreboard, it was one of the most impressive plays of the season.
“Jordan Addison’s catch was one of the better catches at a pretty critical time coming out of the half looking to take seven,” Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell said.
Kevin O’Connell reacts after Vikings beat Colts 21-13
Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell speaks to reporters after the Vikings defeated the Colts 21-13 on Sunday Night Football at US Bank Stadium to improve to 6-2 on the season.
KOC will continue to be aggressive with Darnold
O’Connell won’t let Sunday night’s turnover change his confidence in his quarterback, and neither will Addison’s father’s opinion. Darnold finished 28 of 34 for 290 yards, three touchdowns, two interceptions and a lost fumble.
But when O’Connell needed Darnold most, he made plays.
“My confidence in Sam is something that I think will be a winning edge for our football team,” O’Connell said. “I remain aggressive with him.”
