Early voting is underway for the November 5 election

LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) – Early voting for the November 5 election has begun nationwide and voters in our region have gone to the polls to cast their ballots.

Community members waited in line for up to two and a half hours to vote on Wednesday.

With so many elections going on in Southwest Oklahoma, there was a lot to consider when voting.

Many voters, like Shelby Cunningham, who voted early, say it was important to vote in all races, whether local or national.

“It’s important to vote, why not?” Cunningham spoke. “During the day I take care of my grandmother full-time while my parents are at work. So it’s important that I come out while she has a good day to come here and vote. It is very important to vote.”

Other voters, like Leonard Fitzgerald, say early voting helps avoid long lines on Election Day.

“I knew there would be long lines,” Fitzgerald said. “I had to stand here for two and a half hours. I just wanted to be special and make sure this mood would be over for the day.”
