Interstate vehicle theft ring busted: Police recover 40 stolen vehicles, arrest five from MP

Nagpur: Tehsil police have busted a large gang of thieves who had done just that stolen vehicles from different states, and recovered 40 vehicles worth Rs12.90 lakh. Police cracked 20 theft cases and arrested five people from Madhya Pradesh.
The suspects were identified as Rohit Chandrapuri (34), Niraj Nagwanshi (21), Rohit Nagle (25), Amit Aheke (19) and Dinesh alias Deepak Kumar Kumre (19), all residents of Madhya Pradesh. Tehsil police were investigating a car theft case in which a man’s bicycle was stolen from the parking lot of Mayo Hospital. During investigation, police learned that two suspects involved in the crime were arrested by Amarwada police in Chhindwara district. Police took Rohit and Niraj into custody on a production warrant and started their interrogation.
The duo then revealed information about the other accomplices: Nagle, Dinesh and Amit. Tehsil police sent a team to Madhya Pradesh and arrested the accused after he laid a trap. During the investigation, police solved 20 theft cases and recovered 40 bicycles worth Rs 12.90 lakh. The suspects had committed eight thefts under Tehsil police station, four under Mankapur, two under Sitabuldi and one each under Koradi and Dhantoli police stations. The accused also committed thefts in various parts of Madhya Pradesh.
The action was taken under the leadership of zonal DCP Anita More by PI Sandeep Bua’s team. Police said the suspect often targeted hospitals in the city to steal vehicles and later sold them in rural Chhindwara by changing the number plate.
Meanwhile, Pachpaoli police also arrested a thief from Chhindwara, identified as Shahrukh Khan, 24. During interrogation, Khan confessed to committing four crimes, including burglaries. Police recovered items worth Rs 1.47 lakh from the suspect.
