Attempted bank robbery in Hamilton foiled by bicycle bandit: police

A bumbling bank robbery suspect fled a Hamilton BMO empty-handed and left confused after his getaway bike was stolen in a strange twist of crime.

On December 18, Hamilton police officers were called to the bank at 375 Upper Paradise Road around 12:30 p.m.

Investigators say a lone man arrived on a bicycle, left it outside and walked into the bank.

The suspect (pictured below) approached a cashier and passed a note demanding cash, police said in a news release.

Investigators say he also verbally threatened the cashier while gesturing that he was in possession of a weapon.

Several bank employees called his bluff and confronted him, prompting him to leave empty-handed.

Then things took an interesting turn.

“Upon leaving the BMO bank, the suspect returned to his bicycle location and discovered that a fellow offender had stolen his bicycle,” Hamilton police said in a news release.

“The dazed and confused male then kicked his legs in high gear and fled on foot north on Upper Paradise Road.”

He was last seen in the area of ​​Upper Paradise Road and Elmwood Avenue.

He is described as white, between 5 feet 10 and 6 feet tall, and was wearing a long, multi-colored scarf, black sunglasses, a blue surgical mask, a black jacket with fur trim, black gloves, dark pants and white shoes . .

The bicycle thief, meanwhile, is described as a man dressed entirely in black.
