Cunha | ‘The fans should be able to enjoy these days’ | First team men | News

Matheus Cunha says it was “great” to hear the atmosphere at Molineux on Boxing Day evening, after a difficult campaign until recent weeks.

A 2-0 win over Manchester United under the lights was the Old Gold’s most impressive performance at Molineux this season and represented two wins from two for new head coach Vitor Pereira. Cunha himself opened the scoring by scoring straight from a corner, before setting up Hee Chan Hwang for the sealer, and Cunha praised the new head coach for the energy he has brought to Wolves in a short time.

Here’s to a big win on Boxing Day

“I feel like the fans need days like this to enjoy and be happy. After the match it was great to hear them all so happy.

“When new people come in, they bring a lot of stuff with them, and Vitor is no different. He has had the dream of managing a team in the Premier League for 18 years. We enjoy these kinds of things because we can feel the energy, how they push us to be better. We can show everyone that we are all together.”

On Pereira’s impact

“It’s the energy: when someone new comes in, he comes with the dream of winning. They start to cope better. Then everyone thinks they should show it to him.

“It was a bit difficult in the end with Gary. He was very good for us and took the team to another level last season. When that happens, the team goes backwards a bit. I don’t think it was all his fault, but that can happen. Vitor came in with new energy, with new dreams, and then everyone tried to impress him. These small details then help us on a field. You can show everyone the energy changes.”

On his goal from a corner

“The staff came to me and said at the corner: shoot at the goal, don’t cross, but shoot at the goal, because maybe something could happen. They do a really good job of telling me these kinds of details, and I’m so happy that I took the corner well, and it’s my first goal with a corner. I hope I can do more.”

About his role in the second

“For me, helping teammates is the most important thing. With Gary I started to become a leader in the group. He was someone who taught me very well how to be a leader. It is no different with Victor. He came to me, he talked to me, and he continues to push me to do these details. I feel happy because I can help my teammates. Honestly, when you do things like this and see the happiness in Channy’s face, you feel happy because you can say you did your job.
