@cotille Tips for planting fall gardens from my local garden club. I’ve been calling my local gardening groups and sharing the best of gardening hacking and tips as I learn. Our September speaker was a master gardener who came to the garden club and gave a presentation on how to put your garden to bed and protect it at the same time pollinators. She gave us so many great tips for preparing the autumn and winter garden. The first autumn garden tip is: take photos of your garden in the fall. The photos of your garden will help you remember how big each plant actually grows over the season and help you determine proper spacing in the spring. The second tip is that when buying fall bulbs, always order some grape hyacinths so that you can plant some in front of your other bulbs. Grape hyacinth produces green shoots very easily, which will be a visual reminder that you planted bulbs in that spot. Tip will transfer next fall Bee houses. They should be cleaned every year to prevent mites and diseases. Alternatively, you can make a homemade bee house by bundling hollowed out stems and placing them upright in your garden. These will break down naturally and can be made every year. No leaf blowers. Leaflets E are too vigorous and disrupt the natural mulch, which keeps your soil healthy. Be as careful as possible when doing fall cleanup. But. Remove all squash and tomato plants from your growing vegetable gardens to prevent bad insects from overwintering #gardening101 #autumngarden #fallgardenprep #daffodils #muscari #gardeningtips #growingvegetables #autumngardenplanting #gardenhacks #beneficialinsects #pollinators #pollinatorsareimportant ♬ original sound – Cotille | Gardening tips

The scoop

The master gardener’s first tip? Take pictures of your fall garden. These snapshots allow you to remember the full size of each plant, making spring spacing much easier.

Before planting fall bulbs, add grape hyacinth in addition to other bulbs. Their early green shoots mark where the bulbs are planted, preventing accidental digging in the spring.

The expert recommends skipping store-bought beehives, which need to be cleaned annually to keep mites and diseases out. Instead, make natural bee houses by bundling hollow stems and placing them upright in your garden. These decompose naturally and can be replaced annually.

Another important tip: store the leaf blower. These tools disrupt the natural mulch that keeps the soil healthy. The master gardener suggests gentle fall cleaning, although vegetable gardens require a thorough cleaning of squash and tomato plants to avoid pest problems.
