The day after Netflix has released an official teaser trailer, Jerry and Stephen Jones offered some thoughts on the streaming service’s upcoming Dallas Cowboys docuseries.
Jerry Jones was prominently featured in the 45-second teaser, alongside the likes of Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith and Deion Sanders. According to the Cowboys owner, the project was an ‘extensive job’.
“We worked on the actual documentary for two years,” says Jerry Jones told 105.3 The Fan (KRLD-FM). “There’s probably a few more years of work to be done.”
The docuseries titled “America’s Team: The Gambler and his Cowboys‘ is expected to tell the story of Jerry Jones’ rise to his current role as one of the most influential figures in sports. When asked about the choice to call him a gambler, the Cowboys owner described how he dealt with the fluidity in the NFL. He said his time in the oil and gas sector prepared him for what he would see in the competition.

“I could be talking on a telephone, a normal telephone at the time with my left hand, and hear the news that I had just fallen into a dry hole,” Jerry Jones said. “Enough to absolutely ruin your day, week or month. And at the same time, put that on hold and talk to someone else about doing a new prospect and getting really good financially with that prospect. You need to take the news in your left ear that is negative and without your voice breaking, go to the right and speak positively and talk about the future and how good it will be.
Stephen Jones, Chief Operating Officer of the Cowboys, said viewers should enjoy seeing documentation of what Jerry Jones has done as an entrepreneur and Hall of Fame owner. Jerry Jones bought the Cowboys in 1989 for $140 million from team owner and friend HR “Bum” Bright in the largest deal at the time for an NFL team. Since Jerry Jones bought the franchise, the Cowboys have won three Super Bowl titles. Jerry Jones’ Cowboys have topped Forbes’ list of most valuable sports franchises for more than a decade. His team recently became the first franchise to do so surpassing a $10 billion valuation.
Netflix too released a docuseries in June on the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders entitled “America’s Sweethearts.” After a successful debut, the time had come renewed for a second season.
“What excites me most is that we’re going to be documenting something here, not just about what our fans will see, but hundreds of hours of footage that our family will have, my kids will have, Charlotte’s kids will have, Jerry’s kids will their children have documented Jerry Sr.’s journey. and what he’s done for business, what he’s done for the NFL, what he’s done for football,” Stephen Jones said. “I think people will be really intrigued and these guys are great at what they do.”
