Derby vs Sheffield Wednesday predictions
Derby and Sheffield Wednesday are just two points apart in the middle of the Championship and it looks set to be a similarly tense affair when the two meet at Pride Park.
Survival will be the main objective for these two teams, as the hosts have recently been promoted from the third tier and the visitors have stayed close to the bottom line in the Championship last season.
The Rams have taken 14 of their 20 points on home soil, so this will be a tough test for the Owls, who suffer from the typical inconsistency in mid-table.
In fact, Danny Rohl’s men have not achieved the same result back to back – win, lose or draw – in their last 17 appearances in all competitions.
However, Rohl and Paul Warne are smart players at this level and they have put together teams that are more than the sum of their parts.
An interesting aspect of both managers is their flexibility with formation, with Warner experimenting with six different shapes over the course of the campaign and Rohl playing in four different formations.
Four of the last seven meetings between these two ended at level, although that also comes at a corresponding price.
A more tempting proposition is that both teams find the net, with Derby keeping just four clean sheets in their 17 league games.
Sheffield Wednesday haven’t been much better at the back – they’ve managed just five clean sheets in the same number of games – so expect goal-scoring action at both ends.
Key stat
Both teams have scored in Derby’s last eight games.
