The Cleveland Cavaliers are off to a historic 15-0 start, and their secret to success lies in showing up to practices and games without an ego.

During a performance op The Pivot Podcast, Cavs star Donovan Mitchell explained how his team has approached the season so far.

“For us, we understand each other,” said Mitchell (7 p.m.). “When you’ve been in the locker room with guys for more than a year, I know what you are like every day, I know your work habits, I know what motivates you, I know what makes you tired. We feel for each other every day, which is great, egos are checked at the door.”

For a team full of rising stars like Mitchell, Darius Garland, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen, playing without ego can be difficult, but the Cavs still haven’t proven themselves and seem to understand that.

A 15-0 start is great, but the ultimate goal is to win a championship. A championship gets in the way of a long season and the playoffs. Mitchell believes his team will be prepared for whatever comes their way.

“I have no doubt that when adversity strikes, we will get closer and closer,” Mitchell said. “But it’s easy with a group you rock with.”

The Cavs have beaten a handful of good teams en route to an undefeated start, but their biggest test yet will come Tuesday when they take on the Boston Celtics. If there’s any doubt that Cleveland is a Finals contender, the Cavs can silence those doubts with a win over the defending champs.
