Sally Kirkland faces a health crisis and battles life-threatening illnesses

Friends of Sally Kirkland organized one GoFundMe on behalf of the actress, in hopes of raising $65,000 to help pay for her final medical needs. According to the GoFundMe page, the Academy Award-nominated artist suffered four fractures to her neck, wrist and hip in the past year. While recovering from these injuries, she developed two ‘life-threatening infections’, for which she is currently trying to find the right treatment.

Kirkland starred in the 1988 film “Anna,” for which she was nominated for the Oscar for Best Actress and won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress. With a career that started in the 1960s, she participated in more than 300 projects.

The GoFundMe explains that Kirkland lost the money she made from “Anna” and her established investments as a result of the 2007-2008 financial crisis.

It also explains the actress’s current lack of insurance coverage for her illness: “In 2021, SAG-AFTRA canceled supplemental insurance for members over age 65 that served as Medigap coverage for members.” This has placed the veteran at a crossroads in dealing with this health complication.

“Over the past year, Sally has broken all four bones in her neck, right wrist and left hip. While recovering, she developed two separate life-threatening infections. The combination of these injuries and infections has required extensive hospitalization and rehabilitation beyond the 100 days covered by insurance,” the GoFundMe said.

The fundraiser was organized by her friends Paige Dylan, Coty Galloway and Mel England with “gratitude, hope and love.” They describe their friend as “a mother figure who provides encouragement, wisdom and love when it is needed most. For those who know Sally personally, she has been an unlimited source of generosity, kindness and unwavering spirit.”
