LENOIR COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) – We’re entering day five of a manhunt for a man police say shot two people in an Eastern Carolina county.

Lenoir County Sheriff Jackie Rogers says 38-year-old Ryan Everett is facing several serious crimes, including attempted murder and firearm charges.

According to the sheriff’s office, Everett stole two guns in Greene County on Ed Moye Road in the Arba area last Thursday around 7:30 p.m.

Then officers say he went to his home at Wheat Swamp Road and US 258 and shot Dustin Snyder and Kathryn Sturges, both of whom are 37 years old. Officials say the two are at a local hospital.

As of Friday evening, Snyder, of Kinston, is in critical condition, while Sturges, of Snow Hill, is in stable condition. Investigators say they do not know a motive for the shooting.

Authorities conducted another search Friday, with the help of a Highway Patrol helicopter and robots, in and around the man’s home on Wheat Swamp Road.

The sheriff says people in the area should remain vigilant and report any information that could lead to his arrest to 911.

Lenoir County officers continue their search efforts with assistance from neighboring counties, Kinston Police, the SBI and Highway Patrol.

“He is still on the run,” the sheriff said. “We have evacuated the home and the area around the home, but he has gone outside the perimeter and is still on the run. We are still constantly looking for him.”

Everett’s home is less than two miles from North Lenoir High School.

Officers say the middle school was searched Friday morning and security checks were conducted at Banks Middle School. The sheriff’s office had a large police presence around and around the high school, including a SWAT team.
