Rome man arrested on charges of child exploitation

ROME, N.Y. (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) – A Rome man was arrested Wednesday morning after an investigation revealed he had sexual contact with a child.

According to the Oneida County Child Advocacy Center, the investigation began in July when they received a report of an underage female child who had been exposed to sexual contact by a suspect. That suspect was later identified as 35-year-old Mackenzie Mantelli of Rome.

According to reports, the sexual contact began in January 2023 and the female victim was reportedly less than 17 years old.

A grand jury indicted Mantelli on Monday, November 4. Mantelli was charged with:

  • two counts of first-degree rape, a class B misdemeanor,

  • five counts of rape in the third degree, a class E felony,

  • third-degree Criminal Sex Act, a class E felony, and

  • Endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor.

Following the indictment, a Superior Court order was issued against Mantelli. He was located and arrested without further incident by Oneida County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday, November 13. Mantelli was arraigned in Oneida County Court and remanded to the Oneida County Jail in Oriskany in lieu of $20,000 bail.

The Oneida County Child Advocacy Center has offered services to the victim. An order of protection has also been requested on behalf of the victim.
