Dana Carvey on Kamala Harris’ reaction to his Biden impression for SNL

Dana Carvey remembers his experiences with Kamala Harris during the day her Saturday evening live appearance last week, including her response to his Joe Biden impression.

The comedian, who played the president during the 50th season of the NBC sketch comedy show, took his turn saying Super fly podcast with David Spade that he had a brief interaction with the vice president after her 90-second cameo alongside her impersonator, Maya Rudolph.

“She had done the cold opening and it was a very – whatever your political thing is, it was a very human moment, the way that the audience, the emotion of the audience in front of her in that studio for about two minutes, couldn’t it just helps cheer you up a little bit,” Carvey shared. “I mean, it was just a little bit emotional.”

Carvey added that Harris’ team later asked for a photo with him since he was still dressed as Biden at the time.

“And then she’s in Maya’s dressing room and her people are like, ‘Oh, take a picture,’ because I was still dressed as Biden,” he said. “And then I walked in and she was like, ‘Hey,’ and so I was face to face with her for about a minute and I just did all my Biden hooks. ‘No, I’m not kidding. I mean it.’ She laughed so hard. She was bent over laughing.”

“That was pretty interesting,” the comedian said of her reaction, considering Harris has been one of the people closest to the president in recent years. “I think she’s looking at all this from a different point of view. But it seemed cathartic or something. Don’t know. People seem to like it.”

Looking back at the atmosphere behind the scenes SNL Ahead of Harris’ arrival on Saturday, Carvey said Studio 8H was full of excitement.

“It was all very, ‘When is she coming? How is she?” he recalled. “There is tension and sensitivity, a silence. It was as if an exotic tiger was approaching. “When is Kamala coming?” And she walks in and she turns around and she gets this big smile on her face and looks around (Studio) 8H and says, ‘Oh, (if) my mom could see me now.’ And then, a little under her breath, she says, “Of course she sees me now.”

During Saturday SNL After opening cold, Harris made a surprise appearance and appeared opposite Rudolph. The two women made a sketch that made it seem as if they were talking to each other through a mirror.
