King Willem-Alexander has said that Jewish people should feel safe in the Netherlands, after a night of anti-Semitic riots against Israeli football fans in the center of Amsterdam.
The city’s mayor said youths on scooters had crossed the Dutch capital looking for supporters in hit-and-run attacks on Maccabi Tel Aviv supporters visiting Amsterdam for a Europa League match.
Police say five people have been treated in hospital and others suffered minor injuries, while 62 arrests have been made.
The king spoke of a lesson from history and said that we should not close our eyes to anti-Semitic behavior on the streets.
