A series of photos of Elon Musk’s college physics homework has sparked interest online. The post, shared on The notes mainly concern the derivation of the moments of inertia. This topic is important in physics, especially with regard to rotational movements, applicable in engineering disciplines. In response to the viral post, Musk added a light-hearted comment: “Some pages are missing.”

After Musk’s interaction, the user also posted more pages from the notebook, which Musk previously posted.

This interaction garnered appreciation from users, with many commenting on how important it is to understand math and physics before excelling in engineering endeavors.

One user commented: “If you look at UPenn’s Elon Musk’s old physics homework, you can really see where the seeds of his genius were planted!”

Someone went on to say, “Probably the only person who has applied what you study in college, irl.”

Someone also said: ‘I love this, so many people think Elon is just a frontman and not as smart as people say. The man is a genius and can apply himself to almost all aspects of mathematics, science and engineering… and politics!”

In September 2020, Musk, who is also the CEO of Tesla, said: “I just found out that my physics professor from Penn is head of Fermilab and still has some of my old homework.”

Some users encouraged Musk to make his notes public and he responded: “It’s too embarrassing.”

Nevertheless, he eventually posted a photo of his physics homework and said, “Yes, he sent it to me through a mutual physics professor at Caltech/CERN. Very basic things.”

Musk first attended Queen’s University in Ontario, Canada, but then transferred to the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a dual degree in economics from the Wharton School and a degree in physics from the College of Arts and Sciences.

Although he had the opportunity to attend Stanford University for a PhD program in Engineering Physics, he dropped out after two days to pursue engineering dreams.
