As the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train passes through parts of Michigan on its annual cross-continent tour, people often gather at the railways to catch a glimpse.
The Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) railway company organizes the holiday train journey and events throughout Canada and the United States. Although there will be no official program in Michigan, the train will pass through several cities in the southeastern region of the state following a 6:00 PM to 6:30 PM event in Windsor, Ontario, on the evening of November 25.
After the Windsor show at Erie Street West and Janette Avenue, where American Authors and KT Tunstall will perform, the train will pass through southwest Detroit, Melvindale, Allen Park, Taylor, Romulus, Milan, Britton, Adrian, Sand Creek, North Morenci and other areas as it heads to its next stop in Franklin Park, Illinois.

“Each year, this beautifully lit train travels through the CPKC network to spread holiday cheer and collect donations to help those struggling with food insecurity,” said one CPKC news item unveiling the 2024 train schedule and artist line-up from November 21 to December 20.
It’s unclear what time after 6:30 p.m. the train will run through southeastern Michigan on Nov. 25, or whether the holiday lights will be on.

Popular places where crowds have gathered to cheer the passing train via metro Detroit in previous years include Carbon Athletic Club in Detroit, Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park and Downtown Historical Park in Romulus.
Although Thunderbowl Lanes has never hosted an official event for the holiday train, it has previously offered parking to spectators who watched it pass by. This year, however, the bowling alley was purchased by Bowlero in June and a manager told the Free Press they are unsure if parking will be available again.
Train viewers are advised to keep a minimum distance of 15 meters from the tracks at all times. And dress warmly, because the train may take longer than expected to pass through each viewing city.
“It’s great to hear that people in Michigan are excited about the Holiday Train, and hopefully they’ll get a chance to see it come through the community,” said Terry Cunha, CPKC representative.
