Saints finally throw Dennis Allen and the 2024 season in the dumpster: The best memes and tweets

The New Orleans Saints fell on the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, confirming their seventh straight defeat in embarrassing fashion. Former players like Michael Thomas praised the team’s performance, along with QB Derek Carr, in whom the franchise invested its future several seasons ago.

Allen was not the right heir apparent to Sean Payton, that much is now clear. While he will eventually sign on as a coordinator somewhere, his personality never seemed like a good fit in the Bayou. The point remains in the NFL – some coaches are great coordinators, while others are good head coaches – it’s rare to find both, and Allen fell short of expectations.

Fans of saints wanted Allen fired last season, especially with big names in the coaching world like Bill Belichick and Mike Vrabel available. Although neither man got a job during that cycle, the Saints waited a little too long. Both will be mentioned as plausible long-term replacements, as will Lions OC Ben Johnson.

The season in New Orleans has been over for a while now. Carr missed a few games and despite a hot 2-0 start, the Saints mismanaged their resources and eventually the Saints overtook them. Next up should be New Orleans general manager Mickey Loomis, although he has built some trust with the Benson family.

The Saints roster features many talented players, many of whom could be dealt before the NFL trade deadline to give Loomis a head start in rebuilding. The likes of Marshon Lattimore and Chase Young have been caught up in trade rumors, but they’re certainly not the only ones. Even Alvin Kamara – assuming the price is right – could make sense for an RB-needy team.

Given the drama surrounding this Saints team and the endless string of losses, there was no way Gayle Benson could ignore the obvious much longer.
