In a situation that can only be described as unique, Primus’ Tim “Herb” Alexander left the band by email.
The band’s social media post shows that the drummer sent them an email on October 17, indicating that he would no longer be involved with Primus, effective immediately.
Primus’ response is below:
“After a wonderful spring and summer of touring and some fantastic plans on the horizon, it was a little baffling to us that Herb would bow out so abruptly,” the band said in a statement. “After several attempts to communicate with Herb, his only response was another email stating that he had ‘lost his passion for playing.’ As disappointing as that is, we respect his choice and it has forced us to make some difficult decisions.
“We considered canceling the annual New Year’s show, but after much discussion Les and Ler decided to switch to an extended version of Primus with members of the Holy Mackerel and Frog Brigade. This will be an exciting, special, one-off event. As for the future Primus, the band is looking forward to performing with Tool and others in the Dominican Republic. Danny Carey has once again graciously offered to fill the drum throne. For Sessanta, Primus plans to look for the ‘greatest drummer in the world’.”
Primus, which has no plans to cancel shows, was founded in 1984.
