Youth shot during possible Green Line train robbery at Navy Yard subway station

A juvenile was shot Saturday evening during a possible robbery aboard a Green Line train at the Navy Yard-Ballpark Metro Station in D.C., officials with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) said.

Several youths were reportedly involved in the incident just before 11 p.m., with one suspect allegedly shooting the victim.

Authorities say the victim was taken to a local hospital.

Trains on the Green Line were briefly single-track while the Metro Transit Police Department (MTPD) investigated.

Around the same time, officials said “a large group of disorderly youths were in the Navy Yard area.”

In response, MTPD temporarily closed the New Jersey entrance, although the Ballpark entrance remained open. The New Jersey entrance reopened about 30 minutes after the crowd dispersed.

This incident remains under investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact MTPD at 202-962-2121.
