LANSING – With two weeks until the Nov. 5 general election, more than 1.15 million Michigan voters – nearly 16% of the state’s actively registered voters – have already cast their ballots.
A total of 5,100 Michiganders voted at an in-person early voting site, including a record 2,504 first-weekend voters in Detroit, and more than 1.14 million Michigan voters submitted absentee ballots for tabulation.
The city of Detroit was the first jurisdiction in the state to begin early voting for the general election, which began on Saturday, October 19. On the first day, 1,888 Detroit voters cast ballots, a nearly 10-fold increase from the 266 Detroit voters who voted on the first day of early voting in the primary. On Monday, October 21, East Lansing and Canton Township officials began early voting, with first-day voter turnout of 115 (East Lansing) and 981 (Canton Township).

As of today, a total of 2,268,186 Michiganders have requested an absentee ballot or received a ballot after joining the regular absentee voter list. To date, 1,147,041 voters have returned completed mail-in ballots for counting – a 51% return rate.
