(ABC 6 News) – In Hawaii, a 17-year-old kayaker was rescued after spending more than 12 hours in the waters off Oahu.

The 17-year-old was reportedly separated from his school rowing team when he capsized. He wasn’t wearing a life jacket.

The kayaker was forced to tread water for more than 12 hours when a U.S. Coast Guard plane spotted him just before 4:30 a.m.

Officials say he was treated for injuries and hypothermia and transported to a local emergency room.

At last check-up, his condition was serious but stable.
