Actor Bujou Thaangjam, known for his roles in Mary Kom AND Shivaayhe accused the casting team behind star Alia Bhatt Jigra unprofessional behavior.
According to the actor, who has been credited with character roles in many Hindi films, he was asked to make himself available in December for the film’s shoot, but a follow-up call was never received.
In a post on the X website, the actor stated that he did not want to arouse controversy, but decided that it was time to speak out.
“In 2023, their casting team approached me to audition for a role. I sent my tapes twice in four months, playing on their schedule. At the end of November they told me I would be filming in December – fantastic, right? Except they never gave me any specific shooting dates.
“Despite this, they reserved the entire month of December for me, expecting me to be ready to take photos for them at any time. As someone who lives in Imphal, Manipur, I made it clear from the beginning that travel arrangements would need to be made, but it didn’t seem to matter,” recalls Thaangjam.
The actor said he was kept under wraps for the entire month, except for a brief message that they were waiting to “come back.”
“In the meantime, I lost other projects because I was sitting and waiting for them to give me the green light. But of course it never came,” the actor said.
As an actor from Northeast, Thaangjam said it was “particularly disrespectful, almost discriminatory.”
“My time was wasted and I missed out on other opportunities just because they expected me to be available at any time,” he wrote.
Jigra was met with much controversy, including negative reviews regarding Bhatt’s casting in the film and comments from actress Divya Khosla Kumar that the film, a prison break drama, resembled the plot of her last film Savi.
