DOWNTOWN DETROIT (WXYZ) — The Detroit Fire Department rescued a man from the Detroit River early Monday morning.
The incident occurred this morning near Riverside Park in downtown Detroit.
The Detroit Fire Department responded just after 3 a.m. to a report of a man in the Detroit River. it was an all hands on deck situation as DFD, the U.S. Coast Guard and the Detroit Police Department were all on site.
Initially, it was believed that there were two people in the water. but that’s not the case.

“We have confirmed the presence of one civilian. The civilian was pulled out of the water and taken to hospital. I have no names and no idea how he got into the water. There was a fisherman down there. They heard him screaming and screaming in the water,” said Detroit Fire Chief Samuel Vazquez.

I asked the following question to a sailor at the nearby JW Wescott: How often do situations arise where there may be a body or something similar in the water?
“Sure, I think it happens more often than you might think,” JC Sharp said. “I think we did average this year. I wouldn’t be surprised if we have one or two more before the season ends. “
