Asbury Park man convicted of murder in Ocean County in 2022

FREEHOLD, NJ – An Asbury Park man has been sentenced to life in prison plus an additional 46 years for the 2022 murder of an Ocean County resident, announced Friday by Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago. Jaszhark A. Rogers, 38, was sentenced for first-degree murder, first-degree murder, first-degree armed robbery, first-degree conspiracy to commit robbery, and three second-degree weapons charges.

Rogers was convicted Aug. 16 and sentenced Friday before Monmouth County Superior Court Judge Joseph W. Oxley. His sentence includes life imprisonment plus two additional 18-year sentences for armed robbery and weapons charges, along with a consecutive 10-year prison term for the certain persons without weapons charge.

The incident occurred on June 18, 2022, when Asbury Park police found 26-year-old Yahnie Patterson of Lakewood seriously injured on Washington Avenue. Patterson was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries on June 21, 2022.
