FLORENCE, Ala. (WHNT) – A man pleaded guilty Thursday to assault after attacking six family members with weapons including a machete.

In court Thursday, Kyle Lyn Seeley pleaded guilty to three counts of first-degree assault.

In May 2021, Seeley was charged with six counts of attempted murder after authorities said he attacked his parents, brother and three children at a home on County Road 57. He used a machete and other weapons.

At the time of his arrest, Seeley was also charged with first-degree arson and aggravated child abuse.

On December 13, 2023, District Attorney Chris Connolly said the jury deliberated for 15 minutes before deciding Seeley was competent to stand trial.

Former Lauderdale County Sheriff Rick Singleton said Seeley barricaded himself in a building behind the house where the attack occurred. The Florence Police Department’s SWAT team responded to the scene and tried to get him to surrender, but he was unresponsive to officers. SWAT poured gas into the building, and when Seeley tried to flee, deputies and officers jumped him in the pasture.

Seeley will spend 25 years in prison. Each of the three counts of first-degree assault involves each child who was harmed by the attack.
