LHSAA is delaying the release of the postseason football bracket due to ongoing lawsuits against its member states

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – The football regular season ends Friday night, with the start of the playoffs scheduled for next week, Nov. 14 and 15, but that may no longer be the case.

The Louisiana High School Athletic Association is delaying the release of its postseason schedule due to a lawsuit with one of its schools.

The Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) will delay the release of the 2024 postseason football brackets due to ongoing litigation with one of our member schools. This situation could impact all 307 schools participating in football across the state. Given the potential consequences of the decision made, the LHSAA will withhold all eight postseason brackets until the legal process is completed and the matter is fully resolved. We appreciate the understanding and patience of our member schools and fans as we work on this important issue.

The games were originally scheduled for Sunday with the bi-district round set to begin next week, but with no timeline given after Friday’s announcement, that seems unlikely.

Comments from SWLA coaches on the announcement:

“I’m disappointed. I think in the past we let someone get their way, and now anyone who follows the rules and does their job the right way has to pay for it,” – Anonymous

“Hopefully it gets accelerated so it doesn’t impact the rest of us for the playoffs,” – Westlake Head Coach John Richardson

“Right now it’s just frustrating if this somehow holds up and we get delayed in the playoffs. Hopefully they do something this weekend and not all 300 member schools are affected by just one,” – Jennings Head Coach Bret Fuselier

“It’s a shame, of course, but there’s nothing we can do about it. We are monitoring the situation like everyone else, and we will move forward once the situation is resolved,” – Iowa Head Coach Tommy Johns

“We’re going to check what we can check. Our main focus at the moment is on the Welsh Greyhounds,” – Welsh Head Coach Ronnie Courville

“I don’t have all the facts, but if U High is holding us all hostage because of their incompetence in following simple rules… that’s not a good thing for our association,” – Anonymous

“All we as coaches can do is sit and wait. This could give programs with nursing injuries a few weeks to get a little healthier if a decision isn’t made until/after/on November 18th,” – Lake Arthur Head Coach Tarius Davis
