The show started with two Florida men among the contestants, but neither made it to the finals.

Gregg, a retired university vice president from Longboat Key, was sent home during the third rose ceremony. Who is Joan, the first ‘Golden Bachelorette’? Meet ABC’s first ‘Golden Bachelorette’ Joan Vassos

Joan Vassos wasn’t the role fans predicted she would take on as the very first ‘Golden Bachelorette’ as she left ‘The Golden Bachelor’ early to be with her daughter, who suffered from postpartum depression after giving birth .

Vassos is from Rockland, Maryland. She received her bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of Maryland, according to her LinkedIn bio, she works in alumni relations at the Landon School in her home state and has served in this role since 2021,” according to People Magazine.

She and her late husband, John Vassos, who died of pancreatic cancer in January 2021, had four children together and she has two grandchildren.

In the first episode, Joan spoke lovingly and emotionally about her relationship with her late husband, emphasizing that although she is ready for love again, no one can take his place.

‘No one is going to replace John. He lives in a place in my heart and in my mind that belongs only to him,” Joan said at the show’s premiere. “But I have a big heart and there is room for someone else. The feeling that I have potential for a future makes me so happy – it makes me so hopeful.”
