Angel Reese has a new head coach as Chicago Sky hires Tyler Marsh

The Chicago Sky have hired a new head coach.

Chicago is bringing in Tyler Marsh to lead its team next season, ESPN reported Saturday.

Marsh has been on the Las Vegas Aces staff since 2022 as the team’s assistant coach and head of player development.

While on staff, the Aces won back-to-back titles in 2022 and 2023 and reached the semifinals this past season.

The news comes after the Sky fired Teresa Weatherspoon in September after a season in which the team finished 13-27 and missed the playoffs despite a stellar rookie season from Angel Reese.

At the time of the firing, the Chicago Sun-Times reported that there was a ‘disconnect’ that became clear during the season’s exit interviews.

In the days following the firing, Reese told the outlet it was hard for her to imagine playing for any other coach.

“I can’t imagine playing for the Sky without (Spoon),” Reese told the Sun-Times. “She’s the only reason I wanted to come here.”

However, in early October, Chicago general manager Jeff Pagliocca said things had “calmed down” between the team and Reese.

“The franchise’s relationship with Angel is in a good place,” Pagliocca said: according to the Chicago Tribune. “Emotions were high for a few days and we can respect that. We can appreciate it. We understand that bonds are being built with coaches and players, especially with the young people.

“So we’re in a good place right now. We are talking again. Everything has calmed down a bit, but I understand. Emotions are really part of this when you have a true friendship.

Marsh is now the fourth Sky head coach in three seasons.
