The city of Calgary will receive a crosswalk field to honor veterans

A local organization wants to create a permanent reminder of the sacrifice of Canadians in the war.

Homes for Heroes and the Forest Lawn Community Association are exploring painting a crosswalk in honor of veterans.

It would be on 36 St. SE, near the Veterans Village.

Gar Gar, the president of the community association, cited other cities that have created year-round reminders of the importance of veterans.

“It means so much,” Gar Gar said, “because in many cases the voices of veterans are not heard. And this one is actually the opportunity to say that your voice has been heard and your voice matters, and we hope to look forward to this.

Gar says they approached the city with the idea and received a positive response within a day or two.
