A child is one of four people hospitalized after a massive fire in a residential street in Newcastle.

Footage shared on social media suggests that two properties were almost completely gutted following a fire in Violet Close, Elswick.

There were also unconfirmed reports that the fire was caused by an explosion.

North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) said it was called to the scene at around 12.45pm.

The statement added: “We dispatched four paramedic crews, four crews from our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART), a medic, a specialist paramedic, a clinical team leader, a duty officer and a tactical advisor to the scene.

“We treated and transported four patients – three adults and one child – to hospital for further treatment.”

At 1:46 a.m. Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service reported that several fire engines were at the scene. He urged people to avoid the area and keep their windows and doors closed.

Northumbria Police said in a statement: “Shortly before 12.45pm today, Tyne and Wear Fire Brigade contacted police who are battling a fire in the Violet Close area of ​​Newcastle.

“Emergency services are still working on site.

“Roads are closed in and around Buddle Road, drivers and residents are advised to avoid the area and close doors and windows if they see or smell smoke.”
