Authorities accuse specialist of killing sergeant at Fort Leonard Wood

FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. (KY3) – Authorities arrested a Fort Leonard Wood soldier Oct. 21 in the death of a sergeant on post.

Specialist Wooster Rancy, 21, is charged with murder and obstruction of justice in the death of Sergeant Sarah Roque. Specialist Wooster serves at the post with the 5th Engineer Battalion.

Investigators would not release how Sgt. Roque has passed away. Investigators say her body was found in a dumpster on the post. The Army’s Criminal Investigation Division continues to investigate.

Sergeant Roque, of Ligonier, Indiana, was a bridge crew member and served as a mine dog handler with the K9 Detachment, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 5th Engineer Battalion. She enlisted in 2020 and attended basic combat training at Fort Leonard Wood. Sergeant Roque’s awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.

Specialist Rancy is originally from North Miami, Florida. He joined the Army in 2022. He attended basic combat training at Fort Leonard Wood.
