A ram attack with a truck near the Israeli army base leaves one dead and dozens injured; suspect murdered

A suspect rammed a truck into a nearby bus stop the Israeli city of Tel Aviv, wounding at least 35 people in what local authorities are investigating as a possible terror attack, according to reports, with one victim dying from his injuries.

In the town of Ramat Hasharon, in the Glilot area northeast of Tel Aviv, the truck crashed into a bus that had stopped to drop off passengers as Israelis returned to work after a week-long holiday.

The bus stop is close to an army base and the headquarters of the Israeli intelligence service Mossad.

Some victims were trapped under the truck. Citizens shot dead the truck driver, who allegedly got out with a knife, Tazpit Press Service (TPS), an international Israeli news agency, reported.

Tel Aviv’s Ichilov Medical Center announced later on Sunday that one person injured in the attack died, TPS reported.

The truck driver was a resident of the Israeli Arab city of Qalansawe, police sources told TPS.

Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorist group praised the suspected attack but did not claim it, according to the Associated Press. TPS reported that many of the injured were elderly retirees traveling to a museum. At least one victim suffered life-threatening injuries, according to TPS.

Also near the crime scene are several army intelligence units that have become targets of rocket attacks from the The Lebanon-based terrorist group Hezbollah.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday that the attacks “severely harmed” Iran and achieved all of Israel’s objectives.

“The air force has struck all over Iran. We have seriously damaged Iran’s defense capabilities and its ability to produce missiles aimed at us,” Netanyahu said in his first public comments on the attacks.
