Man found with gunshot wounds in car and crashed into BC ditch

The man, who police say was driving, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

West Shore RCMP found a man with gunshot wounds inside a vehicle that crashed in a Metchosin ditch early Monday.

Police believe the man was shot at another location and was driving when he turned off Kangaroo Road between Sooke and Lindholm Road.

West Shore RCMP responded to a call of the crashed white 2002 Hyundai Accent at 3:09 a.m.

Paramedics from Metchosin Fire and Rescue and BC Ambulance also attended.

The 40-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious life-threatening injuries. Police said the driver had “gunshot wounds to his body,” but did not elaborate. There was no immediate word on his current condition.

Police are looking for witnesses and are asking anyone with information about the incident to call West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264.

Anyone with dashcam footage recorded in the area of ​​Kangaroo Road between midnight and 4 a.m. Monday is also asked to call RCMP.

An investigation, which RCMP say is still in its early stages, is ongoing. No arrests have been made.

Police believe the shooting was an isolated incident and say there is no threat to public safety.

Cpl. Nancy Saggar said no further information was being released because the investigation is ongoing.
